used @ValDotTown to snipe the hard to get nintendo museum tickets 1. get the availability dataβnintendo tried to prevent this, bypass is just spoofying a header 2. availability is int-encoded, pattern matched to find the open pattern 3. sends telegram message when open found
Finally had a moment to play around with @val.town. It's super fun! Hacking on a small workout planner and it's a fun way to get up and running with a few APIs very quickly.
I built a tool (using @val.town) that will summarize the email sent to it (great for long newsletters). Details here: paul.kinlan.me/projects/ema... Or send an email here: paulkinlan.emailSummaryHandler@valtown.email

Built a cipher game bao-cipher.web.val.run Just try to decode a letter substitution cipher as quick as you can. You can share the game link and compete against a friend. Initially itβs for my kid to practice in a competition, but itβs kinda fun and now I just keep playing it.
i use gather.directory to upload photos to an @are.na channel and a val town endpoint i made in literally less than a minute (so good!) that grabs me the last block from the channel
Had some fun with AI this morning. I used Townie from val.town to create a holiday drink menu. A few prompts, embellished the content and the site is hosted in seconds. That was a lot of fun. dave_smith-holidaycocktailmenu.web.val.run

Doctor's offices are magical rooms Just by walking inside, you agree to pay whatever price they bill you for It's like an omakase restaurant that lets you know the price of the meal by mail 6 weeks later. Remember that stringy fish you didn't like? That'll be $400
Introducing CerebrasCoder! An open-source app that generates websites with Llama3.3-70b from @cerebrassystems.bsky.social as fast as you can type. 100% free and open-source. (Inference in video is at 1x speed. Me typing sped up 3x.) cerebrascoder.com
Built on @val.town which has been helping me to overcome my "backend infrastructure PTSD" π
I've built "subscribe to a Bluesky thread as an RSS feed" - check it out at vlad-blueskythreadtorss.web.val.run Subscribing to updates to specific thread is the functionality I wanted to exist on Twi/X since forever. Delighted on how easy it was to build my own version of it for Bsky!
come for the easy tool to track metrics about codebases over time, stay for the tedious discussion about how our node_modules directory is big partially because some NPM packages are now shipping every line of code three times for their esm/cjs/esnext/umd builds blog.val.town/blog/devstats/
i made a val of all the vals that got a lot of edits in the last month stevekrouse-showcase.web.val.run
@val.town made this site for friends to cast predictions on the game awards w townie gameawards.mitchinson.dev Excited for multi file projects since that will really assist townie, but I hope vals remain immediately understandable instead of scrolling through files like a full gh repo
I just had a play with @val.town and made this little "now playing" widget for my notes site! Took like 10 mins. Nice one @stevekrouse.com + team
this year's bandcamp wrapped! (this is not an official thing but i hacked together something to make it work and wrote it on val.town) https://macwright.com/2024/12/06/bandcamp-wrapped

i think i'm in the market for one of those phone booths. good acoustics are key for recording videos. what do y'all recommend? might there be a way to get one secondhand from a failed company?
So 3 of my recent vals are part of the newsletter. There are lot of them I created but didn't publish, but Val is my go to tool for prototyping and seeing the possibility. If I can do it in val.town, I can scale it up anywhere....

I created four bots over the last two weeks using three different techniques. If your bot fits the Tracery syntax, BBDQ is definitely the way to go. If not, I found @val.town the next best thing, as it makes hosting and setting up the cron job super easy.
Used val.town for the first time to create my silly bot @theproblem-bot.bsky.social @stevekrouse.com et al. have been cooking, huh? Really makes a whole class of web tasks that historically had a lot of accidental complexity attached trivial.
My favorite uptime monitoring service wants to charge me $84.00 / year for monitoring 10 small projects. Nope. Built my own uptime monitoring on val.town using their Townie API in 10 seconds: val.town/v/panphora/c... AI is deflationary. #buildinpublic
One of my favorite authors β Robin Sloan who wrote Moonbound and Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore β made a cron val that helped him catch this solar storm This is definitely the single best occasion for this emoji ever: π€©

Would be neat to know which starter packs are leading people to follow me in the new follower notification. Obviously I want to follow that starter pack too because they have great taste
